What ‘hand’ were you dealt?

In the game of life these are the questions that you have to ask yourself.

From the very beginning, although in reality as a baby you do not have the choice; so is life a gamble?

Do we get an even chance at birth or is it destiny from the beginning depending on your ancestors? Because if your parents were not knowledgeable for whatever reason it stands to reason that they would be at the behest of the informed.

Well, where are you in life and what can you do about it?

I might add; not only for yourself but if you have any or are planning for your offspring!

Gambling is the wagering of money or something of value (referred to as “the stakes”) on an event with an uncertain outcome with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material goods. Gambling thus requires three elements be present: consideration, chance and prize. The outcome of the wager is often immediate, such as a single roll of dice or a spin of a roulette wheel, but longer time frames are also common, allowing wagers on the outcome of a future sports contest or even business success. In this modern-day and age the common denominator is ‘Trade’, we all do it!

So what do you have that others want? Is the question which you have to find an answer to; as you should know your purpose in life by now?

Furthermore can anything be done to change your circumstances from being dependant on your inherited social status, to being fully independent?

I am sure by now you are expecting us to give you answers; but that is not our remit it’s yours, if you want to change?

In this day and age the majority live from credit whether you are in debt personally or your government is borrowing so as to tax your labour just to pay back the loan.

Many of us are paying back the debt of our ancestors and are born in usury and under this practice it stands to reason that the rich will get richer and those in debts will forever be paying back.

One of the ways people change their circumstances is to borrow and invest so as to increase their earnings and assets.

Another is to produce something that is unique and in-demand, so much so that it has an unlimited earning potential.

The option that most poor people take is to gamble on the lottery even though your chances of winning are very slim.

Whichever option you take is going to be a gamble, although some are more lucrative than others with varying amounts of risk and time factors.

When we gamble we look at the prize and then the cost; then depending on our desires and circumstances we evaluate our chances of achieving a result as quickly as possible.

As far as I am concerned I like to look at the ‘playing-field’ to see if it is something that I am comfortable with and would I enjoy the process as well as the benefits.

If so; I am not bothered whether I win or lose because I enjoyed it.

Studies done by Associate Professor Natasha Schull in MIT’s Program in Science, Technology and Society (STS) found that people have many different motivations for gambling…

One subject ‘Mollie’, a mother and hotel worker who compulsively gambled; exhausting her pay cheque in regular two-day binges, even cashing in her life insurance to get more funds to feed the habit, told Professor Schull  “The thing people never understand is that I’m not playing to win”. Mollie just wanted to immerse herself in the ‘Machine Zone’ where nothing else matters.

This is to say; we should not gamble to feed ourselves or family because the risks outweigh the need of a regular income, but you can see that to most of us; life is a gamble which has its rewards, we discussed this in our Post: “Why take the risk?”
